Uvari is a coastal village in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu state in south India, 60 km from Nagercoil and 45 km from Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram are the major coastal Tamil Hindu temples there. This village is located between these major lands. Fishing is the main occupation in this village, off late there are lot of sea farers in this village which has boosted the economy of this small cpastal hamlet.. The village is part of Ancient Tamil history.
Kadalum, kadal saarntha pakuthiyum called neythal which means oceans and around the places called neythal. In history they are called paravas or parathars. parathar & parathiyar are the people beelongs to neiythal land according ancient Tamil history. There are estimatedly around 3000 households in this village with a population of 10000 people. This is separate panchayat village, which is beautiful and modern in nature. The various amenities in this village are three schools (all are run by the church), an hospital (run by nuns), a bank and a post office.
St Antony of Padua shrine is located in this village which is one of the famous shrines in South India. As per the saying there are lots of miracles happening everyday by this saint. The other famous church in this village is the "Kappalmatha Church", where the church is in the form of a ship. Its a good place to visit. Even though this is a small village, there are three shrines in this village in addition to many grottos. The surnames of the people of this village resembles to that of the surnames of the Prtugal and Spain people.
