Uvaizur Rahman

Ismail Uvaizur Rahman is a Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation radio broadcaster and a Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Television Presenter based in Colombo. He was born in Akkaripattu, which is in the eastern part of Sri Lanka. In 2000, he obtained a Journalism diploma from the University of Colombo and also completed a bachelor of laws at the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Before moving to television in 2002, Uvaizur Rahman has been in the Radio Journalism since 1995. He has hosted other Channel Eye television live programmes such as AAnathe Mali, Vidumurai Virunthu, Uthaya Tharisenam, Vidiyali Noki and now hosts the review of the paper called Naaledukelil Indru.

He studied his primary education at the Akkaraipattu Boys Vidyalaya and his higher education was at the Akkkaripattu Central College, which is recognized as the first National School in the Eastern Province. While studying, he participated in many programs in the field of Announcing, Singing, News Reading, and Writing. He won the National Youth Service Council All Island Award in singing the folk group song in 1989 and also for Announcing in 1992. During a period spanning more than 12 Years as a Broadcast Journalist, he has successfully completed the Certificate in Computer Applications at N.I.B.M. His career as a Broadcaster started in 1993. Participating in the programs of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. In August 1995, he was selected as a relief announcer. In 1996, he was in the news reading panel. In 1998, he started as a commentator and regional correspondent. He has reported on crises from some places for Nal makil Arengem and Vidiyum Velazi programs. He is an author of a broadcaster’s biography by the name of Neyerin Paarvail. He has compared many state events presided by H.E. the President and Prime Minister. Additionally, Uvaizur Rahman has interviewed many intellectuals and politicians in the television Vidiyalai Noki programs. This is conducted by the news and current affairs division of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

When T.U.L.F Parlimentraien Mr. Thangathurai and U.N.P Parlimentrien were assisinated, Uvaizur Rahman visited Trincomalee during the tense situation and reported from there. He produced a special program called Nerudel. One month after the tsunami, he traveled from Pottuvil to Battichaloa and gave day-to-day live updates and produced a program called Yaathirai.

  • In Three months after the Tsunami, he visited Southern Province of Sri Lanka and gave live updates from a helicopter.
  • Rajerate University of Sri Lanka was inaugurated by Her Excellency President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandarenayake Kumarathunghe in 1996 January 31, He was the Tamil Compeer of that event.
  • When the Sri Lankan cricket team set a world record in the Test Cricket match (952/6) against India, he was the Tamil Commentator with Premesara Epesinghe and Lucien Wijeyeshinghe. When Sri Lanka were beaten by Kenya in the World Cup in 2003 he provided commentary.
  • S.L.B.C Muslim service belt was extended in 1996 by two hours; he was the continuity Announcer on that day and following days.
