Utrujj Foundation is a non profit educational foundation that delivers a wide range of courses on Islam throughout the United Kingdom. Utrujj works hard to serve people with full time commitments who require a flexible and structured approach to learning. Through developing deep understanding and improved character, the organization strives for the betterment of individuals, families and communities.
Utrujj was founded in December 2001 by Shaykh Haytham Tamim who is currently the Chairman and also the main teacher. It was established in order to tackle the dearth of Islamic knowledge in the UK and make Islamic knowledge accessible in a pure and simple form. Utrujj provides courses to facilitate the translation of Islamic theory into everyday practice. One of the most attractive attributes of Utrujj is its nature and ability to cater for people who are involved in full time occupations.
Utrujj was registered with the UK Charities Commission in October 2003 (charity number 1099875) and leases its principal office at 48a Goodge Street in London. Courses are delivered at range of venues across the UK such as university lecture theatres.

[edit] Overview
Over the last six years, Utrujj has become a well established provider and facilitator of Islamic educational and training services in the UK. It's success has been driven by the relevance and flexibility of its courses, which appeal to a wide range of students. Furthermore, what distinguishes Utrujj is its creativity. Utrujj was one of the first institutes to pioneer complete Islamic modules during evenings and weekends; it lead the way in using PowerPoint slides for delivery and distribution of course notes, which aids retention and reference of information; it defined a new way for marketing Islamic education in the UK and attracting a wide range of students; and finally by using modern teaching techniques such as workshops and case studies, it has developed a unique learning atmosphere where students interact closely with teachers and other students.
Utrujj is concerned with training people with the sacred knowledge of Islam so that they personify the beauty and nobility of the religion, while also teaching them to implement this knowledge in their lives and communities. It is only with authentic knowledge and sound understanding that people can begin to think deeply about the world around them.
The Utrujj virtuous circle demonstrates our aims:
“The believer who recites the Qur'an and applies it is like the utrujja (fruit), whose smell is fragrant and taste is sweet” (Bukhari)
The above hadith (saying of Muhammad), is teaching us to stay deeply connected with the Qur'an and use it as a guidance in our day to day life. Once the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah are practically applied through understanding, the fragrance of this knowledge transpires amongst family, friends and the community. This enriches our lives with a special sweetness similar to the description of the Utrujja fruit.
"The pinnacle of knowledge is creativity, and the guide to creativity is knowledge. Two indispensable and inseparable companions; representing the foundations of civilisation and the marks of success." - Shaykh Haytham Tamim
[edit] Organisation
Utrujj started its fifth academic year in October 2005 with two full time members of staff, five trustees, a board of advisors consisting of prominent Islamic and public figures, seventeen members of a management team and over thirty regular volunteers. There is also a large pool of adhoc volunteers who help as and when required.
In order to retain a flat hierarchy, the organisation is split into three levels. The board level oversees the strategy and direction of the organisation, while the management team has a responsibility within particular divisions. Finally, the project team level are responsible for implementing and running various projects and work closely with the management team and trustees.
The chairman of Utrujj is Shaykh Haytham Tamim. The shaykh was chairman of his own publications business (Tamim Office) in Lebanon before coming to the UK and starting the Utrujj Foundation. He has committed most of his time to teaching Islamic knowledge through Utrujj and collaborating with other organisations.
Utrujj's trustees have direct knowledge of the industry, and senior management experience.
