Coordinates: Utraula is a city and a municipal board in Balrampur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is approximately 45 kilometres from the border with Nepal and is 175 km in south east of capital city Lucknow. The nearest railway station is Gonda and is 50 km apart.The city is very close (72 km) to holy city Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Rama. The main occupation of the people in the town is farming. Agricultural produce include wheat, paddy, different pulses, oilseeds and sugarcane. Mango and Guava orchards can also be found in abundance

As of 2001 India census[2], Utraula had a population of 27,491. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Utraula has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 46%. In Utraula, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
