[edit] Article Title

Recommend that we Change this article title to Utopia MMOG. Thoughts? --Terry 20:02, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I think I like it better as this current title. We could create a direct from that page to here.--ZeWrestler Talk 20:20, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Well MMOG implies online and game, so the current title does not get lost completely with Utopia (MMOG) --Terry 19:07, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
  • You should really avoid using acronyms that laymen and non jargon savvy parents would never understand? Calling it a MMOG is a really bad idea since most people won't even know what that is. The terms in utopia are already cryptic enough to make the article very confusing. I would call it "Utopia Online Game" or "Swirve.com Utopia Web Game" or something easy to understand like that.
I play the game, the current title seems just right. I also asked other players to view the wikipedia page dedicated to the game and so far, it only generated positive responses. Modelwatcher 16:57, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I also play the game. I find online game just fine like ^. Masterchid 06:39, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Ditto - leave it as is. --portugal (talk) 17:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Patel or Corporate name?

I know Mehul Patel (MP) is the key programmer/owner but should we not really use Solaria, Echelon, or Swirve.com where appropriate instead of MP. Though a key figure, he is part of a company. --Terry 19:05, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Swirve should be used when refering to the company that owns Utopia - however, Mehul does programming, and all of the updates, changes, etc. announcements. Therefore, Mehul is the appropriate name to use much of the time. --Tim4christ17 14:59, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alliance spam

Please leave alliance spam out of the article. If you want to create a section on alliances (and include details about a few notable ones), that's fine. Merely spamming with a link or a "*** rocks!" on the other hand is not. Thank you. --Tim4christ17 18:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I'd actually love to see a section on alliances, so if you can write it, please do.

[edit] Question

When does the Age of Dragons end? Feb 07?

- No one knows at this moment. It will most probably end some time in February, but the exact date is not set until a week or so remains. The timing of the Age change is decided entirely by Mehul Patel. 0Stubb0 20:55, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Real-time

I just unlinked real-time again. If someone wants it as a blue-link, it needs to point to a non-disamb page. Remember Wikipedia is not a dictionary! - Zvar 10:57, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mass removal of content

The article suddenly took a cut of about half its size earlier this month. If this wasn't done for practical purposes, can someone do the math and figure out what's been missing? It looks like an anonymous IP edited twice in a row, deleting a lot of info on the first edit, but only the second edit was reverted. I don't have the time right now but I'll check in the next couple days. --Midnightdreary 04:08, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

When dealing with one person doing multiple points of vandalism in a row, you generally (but not always, just usually) need to undo them in the order in which they were done. I've fixed it, but I don't come around here too often any more. I'll watch the page, but can't promise I'll be around to fix this stuff in a timely manner later (not that a week was "timely" to begin with).

Just for future reference, as I said, undo the edits by the same person in reverse order. Their last should be the first undone, and their first should be the last undone. You don't always need to do this, but it's usually a safe way to do it. Caejis 00:31, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citations

Are there any sources we can reference? For example, can we use the Webby awards website to verify the fact that Utopia won the People's Voice webby award? http://www.webbyawards.com/webbys/current.php?season=6

Also, are they any theses about social interactions in online games that can be cited? AnthonyUK 16:12, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

  • When citations are felt to be needed, a record (or at least guidelines) should be kept of which are needed. If I wanted to be picky I'd have removed the { {Unreferenced|date=June 2007} } tag for not pointing anything that needs reference - there's no clue where citations are needed, and the need for them (thus, the tag existence) can't be challenged. Hmpf, Wikipedia exists to serve the users, not the users to serve Wikipedia.--portugal (talk) 17:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More references needed

It would seem that we still need more references. One of the admin decided to simply delete everything, instead of simply saying so. I undid the deletions, and I'll probably get banned because of it, but I personally feel that it would have been betting to simply have informed us that the references that were added were not enough. --Caejis (talk) 13:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

It's been tagged with unreferenced and original research concerns for 6 months; I figured that was chance enough. Not much discussion is required to enforce Wikipedia policy. Please remove all the strategy material WP:NOT#GUIDE, provide citations for gameplay aspects (WP:V), and provide real-world context for fiction (WP:WAF). I'm glad you'll be working on it, I'll check again at some time in the future. Marasmusine (talk) 14:14, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
