Uthukottai is an Indian town located near Andhra Pradesh border separating it from Tamil Nadu. Uthukottai is surrounded by the Arani river. It has a channel which helps channel water from the Krishna river to Tamil Nadu.

The Uthukottai name is a portmanteau of two Tamil words - Uthu and Kottai. Uthu means water coming from earth and Kottai represents the Muslim Zamindars Kottai located in that place.

The place called Suratapalli is near to Uthukottai where the famous Shiva temple is located. This is the only place in the world where God Shiva is with goddess Paarvathi in sleeping posture.
