State Route 8 (SR-8) is a state highway in southwestern Utah, running entirely within Washington County, in St. George.
[edit] Route description
SR-8 begins at an intersection with Dixie Downs Drive in St. George and heads east along Sunset Boulevard to an intersection with SR-18, where it ends.[1]
[edit] History
SR-8 was once part of US-91, along the route commonly referred to as "Old Highway 91" in Southern Utah. In 1991, the Utah Transportation Commission proposed creating SR-8 as a half-loop off SR-18 from St. George through Ivins and Snow Canyon State Park. In 1998, SR-8 was commissioned in two parts, the current route and from the southern boundary of Snow Canyon State Park north to SR-18. In 1999, the Utah Department of Transportation proposed transferring the northern section to the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, which was done in 2000.[2][3]
