State Route 71 is a highway completely within the Salt Lake City metropolitan area in northern Utah that runs from Bangerter Highway in the southwest side of the city to University Boulevard in Downtown. The route is twenty-two miles long.

After its southern terminus, the highway runs east on 12600 South (eventually becoming 12300 South after a slight variation in the route) until the junction of 700 East, where the route turns north. The route continues north, briefly becoming 900 East before reverting to 700 East. The route ends at SR-186.

When it was formed in 1933, the route ran from SR-4, now Interstate 80 to SR-181. In 1957 this designation was deleted and redirected south on the same street, running from SR-48 to SR-111 in Draper. Two years later, in 1959, the route began to take its present shape, going from South Temple Street in Salt Lake City to SR-111. In 1969, the southern terminus was transferred to a more westerly point at SR-68 and the northern terminus moved south to SR-186. In 2001, the current iteration of the route was designated, moving the southern terminus yet again west to SR-154.[2]
