State Route 161 is a short highway completely within Millard County in central Utah that connects Interstate 70 to Interstate 15 while providing service to historic Cove Fort. The route is three miles long and is a remnant of U.S. Route 91, becoming so after the route was truncated.

[edit] Route description

From its southern terminus, the highway heads northeast until reaching Cove Fort, where it turns northwest toward Interstate 15. One-tenth of a mile after Interstate 15, SR-161 ends at a cattle guard.

[edit] History

[edit] First route

When it was first formed in 1933, it connected SR-1 (now Interstate 15) to Bluffdale at SR-68. This designation was deleted in 1953, twenty years later.[2]

[edit] Second route

SR-161 was reincarnated in 1961, this time connecting old SR-1 to the new Interstate 15 in Beaver. This route was deleted in 1964.[2]

[edit] Current route

The current route of the highway was formed in 1965 when I-15 was constructed through the area, which replaced US-91. The route that SR-161 was given then has not changed since.[2]
