The Utah Highway Patrol is the highway patrol agency for Utah, which has jurisdiction anywhere in the state. It was created to protect the lives, property and constitutional rights of people in Utah. The officers are called "Troopers" and have full police powers in the State of Utah.

A retired Utah Highway Patrolman was arrested for pulling motorists over for traffic violations and robbing them.[2]

In June 2006, a 15 year veteran of the Utah Highway Patrol, also in charge of the DUI Task Force Unit, was charged with DUI after crashing his patrol car into a barrier on Bangerter Highway. [3]
