Usplash

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usplash is a software project started by Ubuntu Linux to replace the starting text scroll screens that appear while booting a Linux-based computer with a graphical splash screen. It was designed to replace bootsplash, which did the same thing but in the kernel level. Usplash being in userspace instead allows it to be updated without recompiling the kernel.

Usplash uses the Linux framebuffer interface, or alternatively direct VESA access to display the splash screen.
