I started with DANFS, checked several other common web resources, and relied on Polmar to resolve any discrepancies. I also added an "ARC-2" page to redirect to the USNS Neptune article. The photo is in commons, and was obtained from the DoD Visual Information center, where it was clearly marked as "released to public." Early voyages may have been for the Army, and I've seen statements that some of the early records were lost or destroyed as the gov't transfered Neptune and Meyer and other vessels from the Army to elsewhere in the gov't.

Ramon Jackson has some interesting material on "Army ships." See: http://patriot.net/~eastlnd2/Army.htm

Several of the reference volumes that he mentions appear to be available in libraries near me; if they yield any new info, I'll add it. -- DaveMarr 17:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
