U.S. Marines from the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, N.C., patrol the streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on March 9, 2004. U.S. troops are deployed to Haiti at the request of the new Haitian President to help promote the constitutional political process, to prepare for the arrival of a U.N. multinational force, facilitate humanitarian assistance, and secure key sites in the capital of Port-au-Prince.
