Many people mistakenly assume that because NASA is part of the United States Federal Government, that all images from NASA fall under the public domain. This is untrue for many images, most notably those from the Jet Propulsion Lab.

All images found on the JPL web site should be have this in their notes section, to remind others to caption:

{{JPL Image Copyright}}

Which is displayed as:

Example: MER artist's conception.

When a JPL image is displayed, the copyright message should appear under it, using the following text as an example:

[[image:MER_art_(large).jpg|thumb|200px|Artist's illustration of the [[MER]] - {{JPL Image}}]]
