It would be nice if someone wikified these: putting a link from GMT to GMT and put each indivdual timezone with a link to the countries it covers.--God_of War 20:31, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- Isn't it supposed to be UTC? -- Denelson83 22:13, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm for UTC, too, yes. —Nightstallion (?) 23:19, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- How about a vote - all GMT templates changed to UTC? Hairy Dude 00:43, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Change to UTC --horsedreamer 20:50, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- let people choose If the point of userboxes is expression of user preferences, I don't see how it'll do much good to force users to use one format over another. The below solution (Template:User timezone) will wikify the entire timezone (e.g. UTC+5), and those pages do list the locations that use that time. --Eric's penguin 01:35, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Non-standard time zones
What about timezones that are not "standard" (ex: India, Pakistan, Nepal, Iran, Central Australia, Newfoundland, etc.)?
Ύ== DST ==
There is no distinction for Daylight Saving Time aka Summer time et al. It is not correct for someone in a DST-subject zone to say they are + or - GMT as this will change twice a year. GMT is generally ntyugiuot considered subject to summer time. - Keith D. Tyler ¶ 22:42, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
I've added the CET template to cover these type of problem for our european users, i personally think that names of timezones should be used (with a link to the article about that timezone) instead of the difference between GMT... but that's my personal opinion. [edit] ¿UTC? - ¿GMT? - Let the user decide
Add this code to the box and the user can specify GMT or UTC with a paramater. Now the only debate should be about what the default abbreviation should be--God of War 01:11, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- {{qif|test={{{1|}}}|then='''[[GMT]]'''|else|then=[[UTC]]}}
- For this type of box, I recommend that UTC be default, because it is the international standard. horsedreamer 23:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] So many timezone boxes
I feel that having so many GMT and UTC +/- boxes is redundant, when a single box which takes a parameter would suffice. GMT already has such a box. For that matter, why don't we make one box saying: This user's timezone is {{{1}}} and be done with the whole thing. horsedreamer 22:59, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- A (probably redundant) attempt at a uniform look for GMT and UTC userboxes (retaining wikilinks to each time format):
Template:User GMT diff
Template:User UTC diff

- I agree with the simplicity of your solution, Hd; I was trying for the same thing with automatic wikification of UTC/GMT. I altered yours so that the entire time zone will be wikified. I now think yours is better. --Eric's penguin 01:35, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind, I clearly failed to do what I said I did. Can ya fix it to do what I was trying for? Thanks... Eric's penguin 01:42, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

- I have one up there I made quite a while ago: {{User time diff}}. Perhaps we should decide which one(s) to officially use and destroy the others. Mine has a different color scheme, but that could be changed, and it allows for custom color settings. -Xol 01:04, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- The difference is that your userbox assumes GMT. The new one is completely scheme agnostic. I wouldn't necessarily support the deletion of the other userboxes right away, because it would break a good number of pages. If there is a way to gradually phase them out, then I would support the removal of other timezone boxes and using one completely customizable one. --horsedreamer 04:51, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Addition
There needs to be a "This user believes UTC is better than the local time" or something of the like. if I knew how to make the userboxes I'd do so...but I've not clue...Dr Denim 00:52, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- I just figured out how to make the userboxes...thanks anywho though Dr Denim 20:00, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
