[edit] 漢語 vs 中文
Can I ask if there is any specific reasons that the term "漢語" should be used? It is clearly stated in the Babel page that this is the template for zh - 中文 (Chinese). -- G.S.K.Lee 10:17, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 第一语言
Non-Han ethnic Chinese people, they consider Chinese the first language not their mother tongue, because their monthers are usually bilingal or even don't speak Chinese. So is more neutral to use "第一语言" instead of "母語".
- This explanation is stupid. I doubt your Chinese Language level match up to this userbox indicates. [1] Give me a reference to support your distorted, false interpretation of this phrase, or stop this meaningless edit war. -- G.S.K.Lee 07:30, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I think "第一语言" should be the correct translation of "native speaker". "母語" should be that for monther tongue. Edipedia 17:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is in fact there's no difference between these terms: First language, Native language, Mother tongue. Read through the whole article and you will see it covers all your doubts on these phrases. Your explanation is overextended and that is where the problem came from.
- A little search on Simplified Chinese Google also yeild the following results:
- Hence if these two phrases are equivalent and one is more constantly used than the other, we of course have no reasons to opt for the uncommon one. -- G.S.K.Lee 04:17, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
There are subtle differences among First language, Native language, Mother tongue. Otherwise there should exist only one word. And in this circustance. I'm choosing the right word. "母語" is more frequently used than "第一语言" doesn't justify that "母語" is more appropriate than "第一语言" here. Edipedia 18:03, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- You see this is the problem. According to that article's first sentence, "a person's first language, native language or mother tongue is the language that was learnt first by the person." This definition I agree, which implies 第一語言 = 母語. However you believe otherwise, that there are "subtle differences" between these terms.
- How about we raise this question in that article's talk page and let more experts on this topic examine the problem? Then we shall see whether this template needs to be remade to your version or not.
- This is the original Babel template for the -N rank.

[edit] Simplified Chinese first
Mainland Chinese is the majority. So simplified Chinese should be put in the first place. UN has decided not to use traditional Chinese anymore.
[edit] Template:User ch
- This template should be about Chamoru, as the Wikipedia language key says "ch" is Chamoru. As it was put up for TfD, and likely to be deleted, a copy is placed here in case someone want to use the wording of the nonstandard chinese user template.
