Template talk:User ja-4

[edit] Why is this in Japanese?

This template is in Japanese, which isn't terribly helpful. Presumably, the template is meant to identify native speakers to other Wikipedians who are either looking for translators or checking the editor's claimed credentials for a particular edit. The only way that I can tell that someone is claiming to speak Japanese specifically is to click on the "ja" link, if I know to do that.

Since this is en.wikipedia.org, wouldn't it make sense to have this template in English, describing the user as someone who understands Japanese? -Harmil 20:34, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

All of the babel templates are in their respective native languages. This is this same across all Wikimedia projects. howcheng {chat} 17:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
