[edit] Replacing individual boxes

[edit] Wikipedia:Babel

This template cannot be used with Template:Babel. Officially Wikipedia:Babel is made for languages not for writing systems, so the scripts should maybe not be there anyway.

[edit] User page layout

If you want to have the boxes in a comprising box you may like the following code:

{{userboxtop|scripts|Right}} {{user iso15924|Cyrl|3}} {{userboxbottom}}

[edit] Talk started 2006-08-25

Instead of creating a userbox for each individual language, this is a proposal to use a centralized template. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 13:04, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I think the idea of "levels of competence" isn't very interesting or useful. I also think it would be nice if we used for the example character the same characters as are used in the Last Resort font. I'll help implement that if it's agreeable. Evertype 12:47, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Andrew also suggested not to use 6 levels. Maybe some users know Cyrl-russian and not the serb characters or the non-slavic stuff. Or only can decipher greek very slow, maybe not complete. If users like to show the differences, maybe let them. Free world, no big harm.
The Last Resort font sounds interesting. What is it? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 14:10, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
For Kana, I put あ. I assumed people don't use か to write the word “kana” in the Japanese writing system, since its Japanese WP article is at 仮名, not at かな. In this case, か may be slightly misleading, so we could as well use any syllable. Feel free to change, I don't oppose anything. I guess levels could be either reduced or replaced with an expression of skill somehow more qualitative than quantitative. Wikipeditor 01:25, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adding Runr

There seem to be a couple of people at Wikipedia talk:Userboxes/Writing systems who are interested.

If I somehow manage to screw this up, please revert with extreme prejudice, hunt me down, and Nerf me without mercy. -emk 16:30, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

OK, it looks like all the bits are there. And for the record, I agree the that the 1-5, N categories are a bit silly. -emk 17:07, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problems with Georgian and Korean

The Georgian boxes talk about "the Georgian (Mkhedruli)." The word "alphabet" needs to be put in there somewhere. Similarly, the Korean boxes talk about "the Hangul"; it should probably say something like "the Korean script (Hangul)". Richwales 04:01, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] individual colors

Very nice job with the new box : )
I see that it has several options, but I'm not exactly sure of the syntax intended to "set". For example, if I wanted to set it so that the colours matches what grk-5 had before deletion. How would I do that? Thank you in advance for your help : ) - jc37 00:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

thank you :-). I had no intention to allow individual coloring. But seems you don't like the current level 5 color. I think the colors should be harmonized with the language templates. Don't remember where the current color came from, I took it from one of the old level5 templates. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 00:43, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
I wasn't so much that I didn't 'like' it. Just the first thing I usually do, when seeing these new all-in-1 boxes is to see what cool options I have : )
I guess I must have been confused by "level colour"? I saw all the options at {{User iso15924}}, and was attempting to decipher.
And help would be appreciated : ) - jc37 00:53, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
there are not many options. you can only choose a writing system (e.g. Grek) and your kowledge level in this writing system. Colors are centrally set for all users at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:User_iso15924/level-color-main&action=edit Tobias Conradi (Talk) 02:14, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I think I see... Those are the "set" colours for each level stage. I guess I saw the word "color" and I missed the rest. Than you for the clarification. : )

And thanks again for your work on this. - jc37 02:35, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

The box is very good indeed.

[edit] Telugu

Can someone please give support for Telugu script on this template? Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 00:21, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese (Hans & Hant)

Well, I've had a look at how to make these, but the coding's just baffing me... I don't suppose anyone feels like making the two Chinese script templates, do they - please? Grutness...wha? 07:44, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

almost done, but I don't know which characters to add. Pls edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:User_iso15924/character&action=edit accordingly. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 20:01, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that - I've used the old and new symbols for language, which should be appropriate enough. Grutness...wha? 22:45, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Good work.

[edit] Feature request

Please do not add 0-level language usercats (see the UCfD for more info). This also applies to Template:User iso15924/category-intro. Thanks! Xiner (talk, email) 16:14, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

What feature are you requesting? --MZMcBride 21:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Level-0 user categories are no longer added by this template, per the recent UCfD that closed with a decision to delete such categories. I made a small error in the coding that temporarily removed users from all ISO-15924 categories, but it was just corrected and should make its way through the job queue shortly. [edit] mong looks strange on IE-7

Hi, I just created some boxes for the classic Mongolian script. Unfortunately IE 7 breaks the line between "Mong-" and "1" or "5" in the userboxes, making them even bigger than they already are (as in

Mong-1
This user has a basic understanding of the Classical Mongolian script.

). It looks OK in the category headers, probably because these use a smaller font. I have no idea what could be done, but I would prefer the line not to be broken. Any ideas? Yaan (talk) 20:12, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
