tdschwarz is a daily wikipedia user. Wikipedia is browsed daily to learn something interesting and new. tdschwarz's interests vary widely as he can find most anything interesting. His favorite browsing habit is to open the main page and read the main article. During reading of the main article, he drills down through any new or interesting items. When some term is not understood, he drills down to that term and subterms to thoroghly understand the present article. If an adequate definition is still elusive, wikitionary or the internet at large are consulted. Obviously, all this meandering through wikipedia to enjoy an article has its drawback -- way too much time is spent surfing the web.
A side effect of learning new information causes me to gather more ideas into my "mental toolbox". He is a very, very inventive person. Invention requires some slight knowledge of what came before. The "mental toolbox" idea allows all these mundane facts to coalesce into novel ideas. Thus, all the tools gathered before are used to make something new. That something may be new, but may also be completely uninteresting. Whoever invented the paper cutter probably didn't find it very exciting, but loved the royalties from his patent licensing!
