  • Special:Contributions/68.65.252.197 changed "C130" to "C-17" in the image caption at 2003 invasion of Iraq#War_casualties. I have no idea whether this is correct; if it is, it needs to be changed also in the caption at Casualties in the conflict in Iraq and in the image description (and perhaps filename?) at Image:USCasualtiesC130DoverAFB.jpg. • I'm not an expert on aircraft but I've jumped out of a number of C-130's, and that picture shows a bay that is wider than a C-130 bay. Whatever it is, it is not a C-130. I can't verify that it is a C-17, but the change is probably correct. Still, I would feel better if someone could verify. SWAdair | Talk 00:27, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)
      • I think it is neither a C-130 nor a C-17. Note that from the images (which are mirrored at [1]), the first 72 are on an unrelated ceremony for the NASA Space Shuttle Columbia, where a C-141 (cf. [2]) or a C-135 (see [3]) appears to have been used (or maybe both?). If we believe that the 84th image really shows the plane used to bring the coffins to Dover AFB, I would say that it was a a military variant of the DC-10. And does the C-130 have the range to fly from Iraq to Dover AFB? Further discussion at Image talk:USCasualtiesC130DoverAFB.jpg, please. Lupo 08:24, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)
      • Although that 84th image was taken during the day, and some of the remaining images, including this one, were taken at night... Lupo 08:34, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)
      • Upon further consideration, I am now inclined to believe it was a C-17, based on comparing our image with [4] (from [5]), which shows the cargo bay of a C-17. Lupo 08:54, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Good catch, Lupo. The article says a C-130 has a Ferry Range of 4,605 miles (7,410 km). With in-flight refueling... Still, it certainly isn't a C-130 -- too wide. Anyone know a USAF Wikipedian?  :-) SWAdair | Talk 09:02, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I've changed the image description and the image captions on the pages the image is used. Lupo 07:17, 7 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Don't know if I'm editing this correctly, but I can verify it IS a C-17. I worked on the C-17 program for Boeing for 2 years on the floor. It is definitely a C-17. Roleary 00:19, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
