[edit] Cleanup

If there are errors in this template, then they need to be addressed. Tell me what is in error and we can work on correcting them. Neovu79 16:42, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Neovu, Let me preface this critique by first saying that I really do like your design and layout. It's visually appealing, makes the information easy to get to, and is really the embodiment of what a "featured template" might want to be.
On to the task. Reference this article to possibly make some of this easier to understand. I will number my suggested corrections to hopefully make it easier to implement or refute....
  1. Under Structure, "Separate Operating Agency" should be listed
  2. The subheading Operational Commands is actually a unit designation: "Operational Command". I'm not sure what the most appropriate subheading is though (maybe Unit Designation?)...
  3. The unit hierarchy (starting at the bottom) is Squadron → Group → Wing → Division → Operational Command → Numbered Air Force → Major Command. The subheading Separate Operating Agencies and content ("Major Commands" and "Numbered Air Forces") is a duplicate of aforementioned information.
That's all I have for now. Thoughts, comments, criticisms? - NDCompuGeek 14:11, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the compliment. Your suggestions are sounds, but we also have to keep in mind that there are people view this who may not be military savvy. We don't want to add too much or add too many military technical terms or language that may confuse them. Neovu79 09:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inclusions?

What about including the historical organizational structures of the Air Force?:

  • operational commands
  • divisions

Also, there are more independent agencies that should have representation (maybe also in the structures section):

  • direct reporting units
  • field operating agencies

Additionally, the Air Guard is listed, but what about the Air Reserve and the Civil Air Patrol components?

Just trying to make this template more complete! NDCompuGeek 15:51, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

The Civil Air Patrol is not a Component of the USAF. It needs to either be removed or moved to a less prominent position in the template. --rogerd 12:13, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Civil Air Patrol

True, CAP is not a "component" of the Air Force, but it is the official civilian auxilliary of the Air Force. It should be listed somewhere on the template as such. Maybe not as a component, but at least somewhere. Just as much as the Guard and Reserve are listed (and they are not "components" of the Air Force, but rather actually a MAJCOM and a component), so should this organization be on the template. - NDCompuGeek 16:20, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal

In order to streamline the Armed Service infoboxes, I would like to propose a renaming of this template to "US Air Force". The reason that the other service templates are in this style of naming (with the exception of the Army, but I have proposed this same thing on that template), and this way it would be easier (and make more logical sense). All 5 services will then have the same style infobox that will (eventually) convey the same information, of course branch-specific), and this way the articles will have more of a "combined" feel to them. The templates (at this current time and their proposed names) are:

Template:United States Army → Template:US Army
Template:US Navy → OK named as is
Template:USAF → Template:US Air Force
Template:US Marine Corps → OK named as is
Template:US Coast Guard → OK named as is

I hope this makes sense, and that other people will be able to understand what I am trying to do.... - NDCompuGeek 06:28, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] replacement

Per Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history/United States military history task force#Service branch templates, all service branch navboxes like this are being replaced by the standard military navboxes. Please stop reverting this conversion process. bahamut0013 15:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
