US Open Darts

The US Open is a darts tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) which launched in May 2007, replacing the World Series of Darts which ran for one year and was cancelled as a result of poor television ratings on ESPN.

The first US Open was be held at the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort, Connecticut, USA - which was the venue used for the 2006 World Series of Darts

Phil Taylor is the inaugural champion - having beaten Raymond van Barneveld in the 2007 final.

[edit] Television coverage and format

The 2007 tournament was broadcast live in the UK on satellite station Challenge, who were broadcasting from a PDC tournament for the first time. Limited coverage of the event was shown on US sport channel Versus.

In 2008 coverage passes to Nuts TV in the UK. The 2008 PDC US Open will be screened live in the UK on Nuts TV on May 17th and 18th as part of a package of darts being shown on the channel.

The last 16 will play on Saturday May 17, with the quarter-finals onwards being shown live across the UK on Sunday May 18 - with coverage from 7pm-midnight on both days.
