[edit] Question

Hey, Ursasapien. I always wonder why people get blocked every now and then, especially indefinitely. Why do people get blocked?Kitty53 (talk) 02:43, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Ursasapien? Hello? Are you dead?Kitty53 (talk) 02:45, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
No, not dead, jusy a little busy with real life. I want to give you a thorough answer, so give me a bit more time. Ursasapien (talk) 06:58, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
First, see WP:BLOCK. This is a fairly comprehensive description. The reasons why editors may be blocked include putting other editors or Wikipedia as a whole in harm's way, disrupting the project, using an open/anonymous proxy to edit, and attempting to avoid a block/ban. "Indefinite blocks are usually applied when there is significant disruption or threats of disruption, or major breaches of policy." Do you have a more specific question? Ursasapien (talk) 07:17, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I was asking why people get blocked on Wikipedia. Thanks, Ursasapien. I was only asking if you were dead, because you were gone for so long. People get busy at times. Oh well. Thanks.Kitty53 (talk) 20:05, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edit warring

Please be careful with your edits on Amir Taheri. I think it would be best to work it out on the talk page, first, before you revert the article again. I believe there is a way to move forward and include the information you would like included. Can you post a link to the article you are citing? I note that you have a history of editorial conflict. Please stay calm and trust the process. Ursasapien (talk) 08:52, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

All information is provided there already. It is simple what I say: I cite from Amir taheri's article, and then I refer to the reality. I do not put interpretations there, it is up to the reader, so it is by no means an Original research. And please do not talk with me in this intimidating tone. The resulting edit conflicts are due to the fact that others (with a biased veiw about Iranians) are better united than Iranians and they always push their POV at the cost of iranians.--Babakexorramdin (talk) 09:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
I am sorry, I did not mean to be intimidating in the least. I meant to be encouraging. I meant to encourage you to continue to contribute and have patience with the process we have here at Wikipedia. As far as specific issues regarding the article, I would like to keep those on the articles talk page. However, regarding original research or synthesis, le tme give you an example. Let us say that I have a news report that says, "Turtles are generally brown in color" and I have another article that states, "Turtles live in swamps, ponds, and rivers," I can not put the two articles together and write in the Turtle article, "Turtles are generally brown because they live in swamps, ponds, and rivers." Ursasapien (talk) 09:35, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Well I understand what you write. But what I say was I wrote "Turtles are brown" and "Turtles live in swamps etc..." separately. I did not say that brown turtles live in swaps. that is up to the reader to conclude or not.--Babakexorramdin (talk) 10:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC). I propouse to bring this discussion on the talk page of Amir Taheri.--Babakexorramdin (talk) 10:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Taheri states that Iran supports of a number of Sunni groups, including the Afghan Hezbi Islami (Islamic Party), the Algerian Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), and the Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. However, he states that the the Talysh nationalist movement in the republic of Azerbaijan and the main Pamiri party in Tajikistan are Sunni, when in fact they are Shia."
It should read:
"In a March 29, 2008 article, Taheri states that the the Shia Iranian Government supports Sunni groups such as Al Qaeda when it supports their purposes of damaging America and her interests. Taheri states that Iran supports of a number of Sunni groups, including the Afghan Hezbi Islami (Islamic Party), the Algerian Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), and the Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. However, he includes the the Talysh nationalist movement in the republic of Azerbaijan and Pamiri party in Tajikistan as Sunni groups. The [ABC source] states that the Pamiri party are exclusively Shia and the [XYZ source] states that the Talysh people are predominately Shia."
The two problems, with even this revised version, is that Taheri never mentions the Pamiri party in Tajikistan and Clifton, et. al. state, "As mentioned above, there are distinct differences within the Talysh community

between the lowlands and mountain areas. First, the population of the mountain areas is Sunni Muslim while the population of the lowlands is mostly Shiite."

[edit] Hello

Hi, Ursasapien. I was looking through WP:BU today, and realized a sockpuppet (Archtransit, a sockpuppet of Dereks1x) had sockpuppets. How is it possible for a sockpuppet to even have sockpuppets? Is that even possible at all?Kitty53 (talk) 20:39, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Technically, I guess it is not possible or it is a matter of your perspective. A sockpuppet is when an editor creates a secondary account and pretends that the account is a different individual. The good folks at Wikipedia have a number of ways to investigate and identify users that have several accounts. When these "puppet" accounts are identified, they block/ban them. I suppose one perspective is that an editor had a primary account (Dereks1x) and then many sockpuppet accounts. Perhaps they did not identify his use of sockpuppet accounts until they discovered Archtransit. Therefore, they say "Archtransit has sockpuppets . . . oops, no, Archtransit is a sockpuppet!" [edit] Someone once deleted the main page?

Ursasapien, on WP:DDMP, it says an admin once deleted the main page. Is this true?Kitty53 (talk) 04:12, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I assume it is true, although this happened before my time here. The main page is editable, but they have more safeguards in place now. Ursasapien (talk) 04:49, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikibreak

I have several real life issues, including some health issues, that are currently occupying all my focus. I imagine I will be back in a week or two, but I wanted to let anyone who might be looking for me know what was going on. Ursasapien (talk) 04:49, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I hope you feel better, Ursasapien! Get well soon!Kitty53 (talk) 01:51, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
