Talk:Ursula (The Little Mermaid)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't understand the ping-pong game being played with the "Connections" article, anyone who's done research on The Little Mermaid will know the fact that Ursula character was copied off of Madame Medusa, not to mention the fact that it is *obvious*, it is stated more than once in the Spanish "Walt Disney, su vida, su obra y su recuerdo" and in several other books. - Excuse me, I forgot I had posted here. But, who the *beep* do you think you are to speak like that to me or to act as if you had any authority over me? For your information, (even if you chose to ignore our posting in the Medusa page) Wikipedia has been contacted and our article section fits within the policies, no source is required for no information is being stated as factual, only suggestive. The section will be added again soon, to both articles, and if you remove it again, it shall be re-added and you'll be reported for vandalism. Learn the rules before enforcing them and don't alter them to your liking. T.W. 01:23, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Could Someone find and add the pic of Vanessa Again, I usually think it's best for the memorable forms of shapeshifters to be shown.

[edit] Larynx
"Larynxes is the plural of the word larynx or the 'voice box'." - (from Trivia section)
Larynx in plural is "larynges", not "larynxes". As for the song, I can't remember it, so I wouldn't know if she actually sings one or the other, therefor I won't confirm nor deny that she sings "larynxes". --Hecko 14:27, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Little Mermaid II
I edited this section earlier because there were about a million sentence construction errors and such. However I'm not sure whether in my editing I might have obscured the plotline. Could someone more knowledgeable on the topic than me check on that? And is the title of the movie really simply Little Mermaid II? --Robin Chen 02:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm actually surprised the section is there at all since in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, Ursula is only mentioned in passing. She's not actually there, and doesn't contribute anything to the story other than being Morgana's bitter memory. I say the section should be cut out almost completely. -- Annie D 12:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ursula is actually a squid
Ursula actually is not an octopus, she's a squid. The reason being that she only has 6 tentacles, not 8. She is never mentioned in The Little Mermaid as an octopus and I beleive she was drawn as a squid because 6 tentacles are cheaper to draw than 8. ArielAurora625 03:34, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
But I thought squid had 10 tentacles, no?, also 6 tentacles + 2 arms = 8!the little mermaid is the awesomest SHOW EVER Karisa
[edit] Trivia becomes Origins
Split the Trivia section into two new sections: "Origins and past" and "Magic and Music", since the information there didn't really seem to fit in the plotline sections.
Also, I wanted to put the following into the Origins section. But since it's only speculation and not encyclopedic, I'm adding it here instead:
"There is always the possibility (though never stated in any official material) that Ursula shared only one parent with Triton (likely their father, since Ursula is said to have lived in the palace before her banishment) and another with Morgana. As such, not being of royal blood, Morgana would not be able to remove the trident. The family relationship between Ursula and Triton may at this point be an abandoned story concept, or else addressed and clearly defined in The Little Mermaid III."
Feel free to discuss.

The following paragraphs were edited by another following my reworking of this section. I am copying the full versions to this section to preserve them.
In the 2006 DVD of the film, deleted scenes have Ursula as King Triton's sister, making her Ariel's aunt. (This is also indicated in the book Disney Villains: The Top Secret Files.) This fact is also mentioned in the DVD guide. It is not clear if this is meant to be a fact of the finished film (with no indication) or an abandoned story concept. It may be noted that in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, Ursula's sister Morgana is unable to remove King Triton's trident from its place in the palace, because only Triton or his descendents can do so. If Ursula were Triton's sister, it could be assumed that Morgana would be as well, so she should have been able to remove the trident. (Then again, she is never seen trying to do so, and may not have had the chance because she is so well known as an enemy of Atlantica.) This issue may also be addressed in The Little Mermaid III.
According to Ursula in The Little Mermaid's entry in the Disney Princesses: My Side of the Story books, Ursula's actions for most of the film are actually the fault of a dark alter-ego she calls "Bad Ursula". In this book, she also harbors romantic attraction to King Triton, making their brother-sister relationship unlikely (or making the book non-canonical if Ursula and King Triton are siblings).

[edit] Ursula and St. Ursula
Are there possibilities that Ursula of the Little Mermaid is related to Saint Ursula? According to this article, "...Prince Eric drives one of the ships through Ursula's heart, killing her and black ooze comes out of her body..." One of the links of the article of Saint Ursula, illustrations show that Saint Ursula has arrow(s) shot on her (in some paintings in her heart). The same concept shown in the movie La Monja where the antagonist, Sister Ursula (or the Nun) was killed by shooting a improvised harpoon to her heart. The paintings in the movie showed Saint Ursula (similar to this) Mark j 04:25, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
