[edit] Photographs by Mike Ingalls for TheSabre.Com
Greetings! I noticed the excellent photographs — Image:Scott-stadium.jpg and Image:Virginia-Cavalier-mascot.jpg — by Mike Ingalls you uploaded to Wikipedia. How did you get those images? They're excellent! If you are in contact with Mr. Ingalls, would you ask if he would consider licensing them under the CC-BY-2.5 license (Template:Cc-by-2.5)? It provides similar contractual conditions as those stipulated on the image description page, but it is more free to move around on Wikimedia projects. In particular, I think the images would be great to upload them to Wikimedia Commons, but I would feel much more comfortable doing that if they were CC-BY-2.5. Thank you very much! --Iamunknown 06:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry – not similar enough to re-license them that way. Uris 16:37, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

- I've just seen your discussion: I've already uploaded the pictures to the Commons. (And yes, I've asked at the Help Desk about the licenses, and they said they're fine.) BTW, Uris, if those should happen to be your pictures--great stuff. Otherwise best greetings to Mike Ingalls, same comment! --Ibn Battuta 19:09, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Photographs of UVa, esp. of the pavilions
Hi Uris, as you seem to be very active about the UVa article on the English Wikipedia, I thought I'd try my luck: Do you happen to be at UVa and would be willing to take some pictures (or know someone who might)? I've already posted my request on the discussion page of the UVa article, but thought I'd try asking you directly: Any chance of getting pictures of the pavilions? As I said, I'd love to get pictures of each single pavilion, so one could set up something like in this article on the Spanish Wikipedia to convey a good impression of the Lawn and its architectural importance. (I'm currently also asking the library about some Holsinger pictures, but it seems the respective pics were taken by Ralph Holsinger, in which case they'd still be copyrighted; besides, the library is far from having images of all pavilions...) Thanks in advance for your help, Ibn Battuta 19:09, 17 March 2007 (UTC) PS: Great article so far, the one about UVa! While I agree that there should be more sources for a featured article, I really like your choice of content (incl. its limitations).
- In case you should know some German--the first shot at a new version on the German Wikipedia is now up (with the section about the campus still being in its very early days). Feedback would be very much appreciated. :o) Looking forward to hearing from you about the possibility of pictures... --Ibn Battuta 10:33, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

- Hello, unfortunately I no longer live in the Charlottesville area. That may change in the future! Uris 01:14, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

- Too bad, but thanks for the info! And lucky you, in case it should change. :o) [Though I've now seen that some of the other pictures you uploaded hint that you aren't too bad off at the moment either...] Cheers, Ibn Battuta 05:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:John_Thompson_III.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:John_Thompson_III.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Rice University logo.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Rice University logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Esrever 22:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Rice University logo.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rice University logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Esrever 22:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures for 2007 Virginia Cavaliers football team
Any way we could get Mike Ingalls to give us a couple pictures to add to the 2007 Virginia Cavaliers football team page... like the one B added from Flickr for the Georgia Tech game? If you can tell me the best way of going about it... I can do it myself as well. Thanks for your help. Jazznutuva 09:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm not sure if he has the images you're looking for. I would just email him if I was you, and ask if you can use the same (fairly restrictive) open source licensing that was used for the Cavalier Marching Band images. Uris 02:01, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Rice_statue.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Rice_statue.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 12:33, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia Commons
Hi Uris, I've seen that you've uploaded the picture image:University of Virginia walkway.jpg. It's great that there's a picture of the colonnades now, thanks a lot!
At the same time I'd like to invite you to have a (closer) look at the project Wikimedia Commons. I'm sure you've heard about it (else I'll be happy to explain more to you): If you upload images to the Commons, they can be used in every Wikipedia (and other projects). If you only upload to the English Wikipedia, you oblige other users to re-upload your images if those users want to use them outside of the English Wikipedia. So I'd appreciate if you could upload your images directly to the Commons--it is just as easy and quick as it is to Wikipedia, but it saves us others the "double" work of re-uploading your images. Thanks in advance, Ibn Battuta (talk) 09:18, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
PS (Sorry, I had forgotten...): The image:University of Virginia walkway.jpg still needs proper licensing, including attribution of the original author as required by its license. Maybe you could fix that directly on Commons? Soooo great! :o) --Ibn Battuta (talk) 09:19, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:FreedomTower3.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:ThomasJeffersonSignature.png
A tag has been placed on Image:ThomasJeffersonSignature.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Xiaphias (talk) 03:04, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
