Uriel Molina
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Father Uriel Molina was one of the most prominent leaders of the liberation theology-oriented "popular church" in Sandinista-era Nicaragua.
Some of the most important Sandinistas had lived with him in a commune in Managua's poor El Riguero barrio before joining the FSLN, including Joaquín Cuadra, Álvaro Baltodano, and Luis Carríon. During the civil war, El Riguero, with its Christian base communities, was a rebel stronghold. After the Sandinista victory, they helped him establish the Antonio Valdivieso Center.
Molina grew up in Matagalpa, and Tomás Borge was a childhood friend. He was ordained as a Franciscan after studies in Europe.
