Uriangato

Uriangato is a city and its surrounding municipality of the same name located in the extreme southern part of the state of Guanajuato, adjacent to the border with the state of Michoacán, in Mexico. It lies directly east of the city of Moroleón, and is a part of the Uriangato-Moroleón metropolitan area that includes the two municipalities. The city serves as the municipal seat of the municipality. At the Mexican census of 2005 the city had a population of 46,586 inhabitants, while the municipality had a population of 53,077. The municipality has a relatively small area of 113.8 km² (43.94 sq mi). Uriangato was founded in 1604, and earned city status in 1812. It is one of the leading manufacturing cities in the textile industry in Mexico.
