URBee is the official mascot of the University of Rochester.
[edit] Mascot
While the original URBee featured a black and yellow fuzzy costume, the current incarnation of URBee is a muscular yellow and blue (the school colors) yellowjacket. The mascot was the subject of a YouTube video that dealt with the mascot's origins, as well as its similarity to Georgia Tech's mascot Buzz.[1]. The current URBee has gone missing.[2] The current plan is to design a new mascot that will match the new mascot logo before the start of the 2007-2008 basketball season.[2] Rochester plans to hold a contest to name the new mascot, instead of URBee.[2]
[edit] Logo
On October 5, 2007, the University of Rochester decided to replace the 'classic' URBee logo with a more modern version and created an online poll for voting, just as UR had previously done with its school logo.[2][3] The new mascot design was voted in by over 2,700 people through an online poll that ran between October 5 and October 21, 2007.[3]
