Urbana Middle School, or UMS for short, is a middle school in Urbana, Illinois. It's located at 1201 S. Vine and its phone number is 217-384-3685. It is part of the Urbana School District 116, which consists of 6 elementary schools, Urbana Middle School, and Urbana High School. The school's first name was Urbana Junior High School in 1953. In 2003, The school has been renovated for space. The school currently serves over 1000 students from grades 6 to 8. The school is renowned for its band program, which went to the Illinois State Band Competition (Superstate) twelve years in a row from 1994-2006. It is known for its SPLASH program (Students Playing and Learning After School Hours) that has a wide range of activities from basketball to Homework Lab.

[[===A Brief History=== As a junior high school, UJHS served grades 6-8. In the late 70's/early 80's, the interior reflected the colorful personalities that had passed through the halls. Lockers throughout the hallways were grouped in various colors, and many of the ceiling tiles had served as canvases for art students. When Dr. Meares took over as principal, the pictures were gradually replaced with standard white tiles.]]
