Uptown (Harrisburg)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uptown is a neighborhood located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Its southern boundary is the Midtown neighborhood; northern boundary is the city line with Susquehanna Township; western boundary is the Susquehanna River; eastern boundary is the old Main Line (Pennsylvania Railroad), which is currently utilized by Norfolk Southern and Amtrak. Its zip code is 17110.

Uptown is the only neighborhood in Harrisburg completely developed in the 20th century. The neighborhood is home to many beautiful ornate mansions along Front Street and Italian Lake park. In the 1970s and 1980s, parts of Uptown began to slip into economic decline. Today, the southern and eastern sections are poor and have many crime issues. The decline seems to have stopped at Division street and Polyclinic hospital, as most of the areas west and north of there are stable and in good shape.
