Uplink Power Control

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The simplest way to compensate the rain fade effect in satellite communications is to increase the transmission power: this dynamic fade countermeasure is called uplink power control (UPC). In any case, it has a limited used since it cannot provide large margins: transmitting amplifiers have a non-linear behaviour increasing the power and the output power is limited. The imitations increase when the radiating antenna is on the satellite: that is why power control is used only in uplink.
