The College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) started as the Department of Forestry under the UP College of Agriculture in 1910. Now considered as a Center of Excellence for forestry education in the Philippines, it implements programs that promote sustainable development in the forestry and natural resources sectors through instruction, research, and extension.

CFNR trains people who support sustainable development of forest resources as well as the natural environment. It aims to meet the demand for high-quality human resource in forestry and related disciplines. The College also aims to advance the frontiers of knowledge in forestry and the natural environment through basic, adaptive, and policy-oriented research. It carries out public education activities, information campaigns, and training and technology transfer programs to disseminate forestry and environmental technologies, and enhance the capacities of people, institutions, and local communities towards sustainable forestry and environmental conservation. It has produced graduates occupying sensitive and high ranking positions both in the government and private agencies in the Philippines and in the Asia-Pacific region.

CFNR professors Juan Pulhin, Rex Victor Cruz and Rodel Lasco were part of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that won the Nobel Prize in 2007.
