Robbie Robinson Legendary Rock Drummer Not Robbie Robinson Liverpool Drummer
Robbie Robinson has been a stall worth of the Irish music scene for almost 25 years. Having been the power house drummer in many of Ireland’s finest bands, Robinson remained more influential than famous. He started with local Kildare band Banshee before joining heavy metal legends Bad Habitz which later developed into No Sweat. He then became an integral part of The IRS (Intoxicating Rhythm Section) fronted by the amazing Steven Mangan. Following a whirlwind record deal with Rhythm King Records the pressure proved to much and the band disintegrated following a European tour supporting Blur (now with out the aforementioned Mangan). Following a quiet period, Robinson came back with a bang. Fronting his new rock outfit The Watertower Conspiracy (this time not drumming but singing and rapping). Robinson extended the possibilities of guitar based rock. The band’s sound echoed such diverse influences as King Crimson, Ice Cube and Howlin Wolf. The band became the toast of Ireland’s rock elite, playing many influential shows including the Cork Rocks festival. This show was broadcast through out Europe. How ever it was the seminal Irish radio producer Ian Wilson who produced the band’s most famous session. This session gave the band an air play hit. However the ‘life to excess’ nature of band proved too much to capitalise on their potential. When the band finally ended in the mid-90s Robbie Robinson attended the National University of Ireland Maynooth where he read Greek and Roman Civilization and English Literature. He followed this by achieving a Masters Degree in English Literature. He now writes science fiction, works in special education and plays with his good time band, The Smuggler’s Blues Band.
