"Sweet Sixteen" 28 October 2001 Jane Hollowood A 16-year-old, Debbie White, asks Dr. Summerbee if she can go on the pill. Dr. Summerbee refers her to the Family Planning Clinic, without her parents knowing. Her mother soon sees Debbie kissing her boyfriend Carl Lomax and then finds the pill in her bedroom. Mr. and Mrs. White take their anger out on Carl's mother and the Doctor. Meanwhile, the Police Station is expecting a inspection by a senior officer. However, at the same time they are becoming the victims of vandals and the pub is robbed of two bottles of whisky. The whisky later turns up at Vernon's house, where food and drink has gone missing. A vagrant is later found to be responsible for the whisky theft and missing food, while Carl is responsible for the vandalism, as he holds a grudge against the Police as a police officer ran over and killed his father.
"She's Leaving Home" 4 November 2001 Johnny Byrne Carl Lomax is remanded in custody after pleading guilty to criminal damage until sentencing. He soon escapes, and he and Debbie run away together. On the first night Debbie drinks unsafe water and Carl calls Dr. Summerbee, thus giving himself in. Dr. Summerbee experiences a backlash after a report in the Ashfordly Gazette criticises her for giving Debbie the pill. The doctor receives a hoax call, and while out responding to it someone robbs the surgery of drugs. The culprit is Carl's uncle, Eddie Ford, who was recently released from prison. Vernon buys 20 fruit machines for £160 and persuades Gina to have some in the pub. However, a rival tampers with them so they give out every time.
"Russian Roulette" 11 November 2001 Brian Finch Eamon Maxwell, a new patient of Dr. Summerbee's, constantly thinks there is something physically wrong with him. However, the Doctor believes he is suffering from depression, but he refers to believe. She later gets to the truth, after speaking to his former doctor, and he admits to being depressed following the sudden death of his young wife from a heart attack. Vernon buys some peat from a Lithuanian exporter Igor Saukas, who MI5 believe to a spy. When Vernon sells the peat, he discovers it will not burn. Egor will not give Vernon his money back, until Vernon bribes him after finding out from Ventress that they are under police surveillance.
"Legacies" 18 November 2001 Peter Gibbs PC Tom Nicholson arrives in Aidensfield on probation. Some African figures go missing from Ashfordly Hall and at the same time a student, Patrick Mason, is staying researching the family. Shortly after, an African chief whose ancestor knew Lord Ashfordly's grandfather, arrives and a party is held in his honour. The night of the party he asks for artefacts taken by Ashfordly's grandfather in Africa to be given back. Ashfordly refuses. The same evening, Nicholson catches Mason with the stolen figures. He had stolen them as he believed they should have been given back to the Chief. Ashfordly agrees to give the artefacts to the Chief after the head of the Chief's ancestor, taken by Ashfordly's grandfather, is found in his grounds. Meanwhile, Vernon's taxi service gets up and running.

When Gladys Dobson dies, her son Harry is suspicious that Betty Hargreaves, the owner of the nursing home, forced his mother into changing her will to leave everything to her. Oscar Blaketon does his own investigations and discovers that Betty has benefited from wills before and is not legally a nurse. At the same time a series of minor thefts takes places, and suspicion falls on Betty Hargreaves. However, Vera Outhwaite, Mrs. Ventress's aunt, has been taking the items believing she is keeping it safe. Another resident Daphne Merryfield, a doctor, turns out to have been treating other residents and gives them the wrong medication. In addition, David gets a job as doing house clearances and accidentally empties the wrong house.
"Old Masters" 2 December 2001 Douglas Watkinson Ashfordly Hall opens to the public with Vernon as the tour guide. During the first tour, George Woodward sneeks in and steals four John Constable sketches. When a journalist shows Ventress and Oscar some photographs he took they immediatley recognise Woodward as a famous art thief, who is now 80 years old. Woodward's house is robbed and he then has a heart attack while being interviewed and later dies. His cleaner and friend Mrs Jepson reveals to Ventress that she has taken the sketches, and gives them back to Alf. The man who robbed Woodward's house was looking for the sketches after Woodward had tried to sell them to him. He is later caught.
"The Rivals" 9 December 2001 Jane McNulty Vernon has an idea to hold a "Miss Aidensfield" contest, and with the help of the local WI he organises it. However, Mrs Jowett is strongly against the contest and is determined to stop it. After a minor explosion at a local carpet factory owned by Trevor Shields, the factory is shut because of health and safety concerns, causing a riot. An employee Jane Felton is having an affair with Shields and admits sabotaging the machine to frame her former fiance. After arguing with his wife Ruth about his affair, Shields falls from a walkway at the factory.
"Home to Roost" 16 December 2001 Jayne Hollinson A group of hippies move into some derelict empty cottages owned by Charles Lawson. As the cottages were unlocked the police cannot remove them without a Posession Order, but when one is given the squatters get round it by swapping cottages. One night one cottage is raided and Steve Tranter, a squatter, is seriously injured. The three men who raided the house are later revealed to have done so at the request of Laura, a journalist posing as a squatter. Tranter's girlfriend Amy Watkins gives birth in one cottage while Vernon and David are round making pots, Vernon's latest idea. Also, Gina goes out to dinner with Nicholson.
"Uninvited Guests" 23 December 2001 Douglas Watkinson A salmonella outbreak occurs, and the source is first thought to be Gine's chicken pies then the ice-cream van. Finally the true source is discovered, a local shop's mayonnaise. Meryl Johnson, the manageress of a building society, and her son Toby are held hostage by two armed robbers at their house. One secretly leaves the house as his heart is not in the theft while the other has taken Meryl to the building society to give him the money. However, the police have it under surviellance and put barbed wire on the surrounding roads so when he makes his getaway he is caught. Meanwhile, Jenny Latimer moves to Aidensfield to help out her friend Dr. Summerbee, whose workload is too much and Vernon starts an animal funeral service.
"No Hiding Place" 30 December 2001 Brian Finch Heather Conway (Sophia Myles), a friend of Dr. Summerbee's, arrives in Aidensfield to try and hide from the press following a affair with a senior politician. However, it turns out that Heather is being followed by gangsters as she holds incriminating documents relating to the politician. Meanwhile, Emma Turner, who is blind, has Peggy, her guide dog, stolen. The culprit is a recently released prisoner, who helped to train Peggy while in prison. Vernon persuades Cllr. Jowett to let him erect a Christmas tree with lights in the village.
"A Gentleman's Sport" 6 January 2002 Paul Quiney Vinny Sanders (Clive Mantle), a famous cricketer breaks down outside the village and Bernie and David pick him up. Oscar then tries to arrange a charity cricket match involving Sanders. Meanwhile, after robbing a jewellers Charlie Draper is run over as he runs out. His former partner-in-crime Jack Wetherby is the chief suspect. However, Wetherby is innocent, and Vinny, who met Draper while in prison for tax evasion, actually ran him over. He tries to flee with the money, but is stopped by the Police with Oscar's help. David by accident accepts a consignment of stolen diesel causing cars to break down having been filled with it.
"Closing the Book" 13 January 2002 Johnny Byrne Walter Amiss, a reclusive pensioner, dies and while trying to find his next of kin, Bradley finds evidence that Amiss was involved in bank robberies, one of which is scheduled to happen soon in Ashfordly. Accomplacies then arrive, and the robbery actually takes place at the train station. Sgt. Craddock's estranged wife Penny turns up having left the man she ran off with. She offers to divorce Craddock, but they talk and get back together. He is also promoted and leaves Ashfordly. Meanwhile, Vernon starts a gypsy caravan holiday company. However, the horses are unreliable and the first two customers Mr and Mrs Morris (Denis Lill and Josephine Tewson) have an eventful few days.
"The Leopard's Spots" 20 January 2002 Peter Gibbs Craddock's replacement, Sgt. Merton arrives. Ventress sees Paul Rogers (James Weaver), a disqualified driver, driving. However, Paul's father Ken pressures Ventress into going back on having seen him, and because Ken has knowledge of Ventress' gambling past he agrees. After catching Paul driving to see his girlfriend Sandra Tatler, the Police to a deal with Paul whereby he tells them of his father's drug dealings. Meanwhile, Dr. Summerbee tells David he need to get more exercise and while at the gym Vernon becomes the trainer of a amateur wrestler called Jeremy Purves (Neil Jackson).
"From Ancient Grudge" 27 January 2002 John Flanagan & Andrew McCulloch A 50-year feud about land between the Allsop and Wainwright families appears to start up again after a barn is set alight. A fight breaks out between the families at the pub, and the Police force them to pay damages and end their feud or they will all be charged. However, later that day Harry Wainwright (Tom Lister) is shot. Both families are innocent, the feud was started up again by Ray Thompson (Patrick Baladi), a property developer who nearly managed to get the land sold to him to end the feud. However, in the end the land is sold to the RSPB and Arthur Wainwright and Dora Alsopp, who fells in love decades ago but could not get married due to the feud, agree to marry. Vernon starts "Reels on Wheels", a roaming cinema company the first showing is to be Doctor Zhivago.
"The Great Ming Mystery" 3 February 2002 Jane Hollowood A £2000 Ming vase belonging to the elderly Colonel Potter is reported stolen by his son Eric, who is worried about his inheritance. Eric is unhappy with the Police investigation and hires Oscar to investigate. Merton reveals to Bradley that he has orders from special branch not to interfer and that some holidaymakers are under suspicion of being extremists wanting to blow-up the Prime Minister as he travels through by train. However, the train is a decoy and one holidaymaker George East (Leslie Grantham) is an undercover agent set out to trap the other two. Colonel Potter tells Oscar that he sold the Ming vase to go on a cruise and Bellamy goes out with Jenny while Bradley goes out with Dr. Summerbee.
"Second Chances" 10 February 2002 Douglas Watkinson Helen Jones believes she has seen her husband Alan (Nicky Henson), who disappeared after stealing £11,000 from his company 23 years ago. It is soon worked out that the man she saw was Anton Berail, Alan's son who has been sent over to England from France to find where Helen lives. The Police then send a telegraph to Alan, pretending it is from Anton, telling him to come over. When he arrives, he explains how he was double-crossed 23 years ago by a bent policeman, Harry Kearton (Peter Armitage) who had taken all of the money and tried to seduce Helen. Kearton is arrested and Helen and Alan get back together. Vernon starts a vineyard while Oscar overseas a treasure hunt, which is won by Ventress and Helen Jones.
"Sympathy for the Devil" 17 February 2002 Jeff Dodds A guest house is broken into overnight, but the only thing stolen appears to be a page from the guest book. One resident is Sue Dixon (Rachel Shelley) and her daughter Tracey. They have recently run away from Sue's husband after she admitted having an affair. A journalist appears to be following them, and the Police find out that Sue Dixon is actually Denise Hurley, a infamous murder who killed someone when she was 6. Having been released from prison she got a new indeity, and even her husband was unaware who she really was. When her husband saw her arguing with another man, the journalist, she told she was having an affair rather than admit the truth. Tracey is taken by her father, and Sue jumps off a cliff. Meanwhile, Vernon and David start selling goats milk. However, the goats keep escaping over night, but Vernon thinks they have been stolen. After a night-time watch, Oscar and Bernie are caught stealing them.
"Coming of Age" 24 February 2002 John Flanagan & Andrew McCulloch Following a robbert in the Midlands where a security guard was shot, a local man called Jimmy Sutton, who is just released from prison, is suspected. Sutton, who was just meant to the getaway driver, is hiding out in the woods with Terry Machin (Rob Spendlove), who shot the security guard. While out in the woods, Sutton and Machin take Bellamy hostage and shot him. Nicholson, whose 21st birthday it is, then offers to be taken hostage instead, to save an injured Bellamy. Nicholson is then taken by Sutton and Machin to a disused airfield, where they plan to flee the country. However, at the airfield the Police turn up and in a scuffle Nicholson is shot dead. Also, Vernon becomes manager of the local brass band and organises for them to play at a dinner being held by Lord Ashfordly.
"Love Hurts" 3 March 2002 John Flanagan & Andrew McCulloch The morning after Merton has gone out to dinner with Vivienne Keen (Jan Francis), she claims that he stole her purse after she refused him sex. Similar allegations were made some years ago and when the purse is found at his house and he is charged with theft and has his warrant card taken away by DI Shiner. Bradley and Oscar then conduct their own investigation. Bradley discovers that the first allegation was a lie after the woman who claimed it was forced to do so by Frank Paton. Keen was formely married to Paton, and he had come back and forced her to lie. He had planted the purse by posing as a gasman. Meanwhile, Bernie has fallen in love with Jenny.
"Windows of Opportunity" 10 March 2002 Douglas Watkinson In a local election, Oscar is up against Mrs. Jowett, who change in the village while Oscar wants to keep things how they are. Bernie is actively supporting Oscar, and David gives lifts to the voters to get them to the polling station. Oscar wins by four votes. After a romantic evening with John Salter, Rose Protheroe is knocked down by an intruder. A few days later a valuable mirror is stolen and several other households have only one valuable item stolen. The chief suspect is Harvey Cottrell, who has expressed an interest in the stolen items. However, Mrs. Jowett catches the window cleaner Reggie Turnbull (Craig Heaney) in her house with a camera. Reggie then goes to Peter Wilkins, who he is photographing houses for so Wilkins can then steal the valuable items, and tries to pull out but Wilkins hits him. Reggie then confesses all to Oscar and then the Police.
"The Shoot" 17 March 2002 Brian Finch Oliver and Sylvia Langley (Robert Glenister and Celia Imrie) are staying as paying guests at Ashfordly Hall and hold a shooting weekend. During this, Oliver is shot and ends up in hospital, in the bed next to Vernon, who is there to have a boil removed. The suspect is thought to a man whose dog had been shot by Oliver earlier in the week. However, the Police eventually work out that Sylvia in fact shot due to her husband's constant adultery. Meanwhile, before going into hospital, Vernon buys a Churchill tank with the idea of doing tours of the Moors. Alf briefly gives up smoking.
"Class Act" 31 March 2002 Peter Gibbs Ernie Dobson, a popular local man, dies and leaves David his ventriloquist's dummy Enoch, which David then gets very attached to and even performs with at Ernie's bookings. Ralph Peel, a butcher, is attacked and has the shop's money stolen. His colleague Len Peters in suspected of being the culprit, as he needed the money to pay for his daughter Josie's school trip. Josie is in love with her teacher Mr. Gifford, and on the day of her Oxford entrance exam when she sees his engagement in the local newspaper she skips her exam and goes to Whitby. When her parents discover she has gone missing, Len reads her diary, where it says she has been having an affair with Gifford. Len then finds Gifford and locks in him the deep freeze. When he finds Josie in Whitby, she tells him it was not true, and later Gifford is finally released from the deep freeze. The actual culprit who hit Peel is a local tradesman's assistant.
"Caught in the Headlights" 7 April 2002 Peter Gibbs Gina goes out with Alex Robinson, a visiting land agent staying at the pub, for the evening to Ashfordly Hall. However, at about 10.30pm she feels unwell. Robinson then tells Lord Ashfordly that Gina drove home after he rebuffed her. A man is then killed in a hit and run incident and Gina's car is proved to be the car that knocked the man, Mr. Sinclair, down and it is suspected she was drunk. Although she cannot remember what happended, Oscar is certain of her innocence. After a blood test is proven she was drugged. The Police then work out that Robinson had planned the whole incident, and he was the one driving. He had delibratley killed Sinclair, who we was in a bidding war with over a piece of land. Also, Vernon is hired by a father to taxi his two daughters, who are backing singers, to the club each night where they sing and stay with them to ensure nothing happens between one daughter and the lead singer. However, the loud music gets too much for Vernon and he sends David in his place.
"Love's Sweet Dream" 14 April 2002 Jane Hollowood Ellen Richards (Poppy Miller) has a miscarriage, and when she gets home Dr. Summerbee examines her and finds bruises on her arms. Ellen says she fell down the stairs, however when a few nights later a neighbour hears an argument between Ellen and her husband Ray (Richard Lintern) and he claims she tried to throw herself out the window. The following day, Ellen goes with her son Anthony (Travis Yates) to stay in a hotel. When the Police find her she says that Ray threw her down the stairs and has been abusing her. When Ellen moves into a refuge, Ray breaks into Dr. Summerbee's house to get the address. As she runs away, she collapses. Previously she had told Mike she loved him. Meanwhile, a caterer Gloria Grey (Lill Roughley) goes into business with Vernon to do the catering for funerals, something Gina always did. Gloria then moves herself into Vernon and David's house and starts running it. Her daughter Millicent turns up and steals some silver from the pub, and then money from Vernon's before they both leave.
