Update Manager is a Linux utility for updating software packages. Via a background daemon, it can notify the user of updated packages, and optionally download and install them. It is a GTK+ frontend to the APT package management system, but unlike full-featured package managers such as Synaptic, it cannot be used to add or remove packages.

Written as a core utility for the Ubuntu desktop, it is also part of Debian unstable and can run on other APT-based systems.
