[edit] show vs. episode

This category and it's accompanying template have slowly been added to episodes etc. as well. Perhaps it is wise to rename the category to Category:Upcoming television. We could split it out as well of course, but i don't think that we really need any more "future"/"upcoming" categories and banners. - The DJ 13:12, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I am sorry, but I must agree with The DJ...There are way to many Simpson EPISODES in this category, not saying that the Simpsons are bad but this category strictly says television shows, not television show episodes... (Tigerghost 05:30, 13 May 2006 (UTC))
    • I went Bold :D - The DJ 19:51, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
      • SPLIT THE ARTICLE. I'm for spliting the article into Upcoming episodes of shows and shows that haven't aired yet or are rumored to air. (Tigerghost 01:51, 17 May 2006 (UTC))
        • Agree totally. To clarify, the two categories should be named as follows: 'Upcoming television SERIES' and 'Upcoming television EPISODES'. The word "show" is ambiguous and shouldn't be used at all. SnappingTurtle 19:26, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
          • I agree wholeheartedly with SnappingTurtle on this. Robert Happelberg 23:27, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
  • I disagree, as long as not multiple {{future television}} templates are used, and you are simply not gonna get concensus on that. It's been tried. Also Series should be avoided, since you don't usually call a yet to launch talkshow a series. If anything, episodes should not be created before they are aired, since episode-articles are already of questionable nature within wikipedia. • For landmark shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy people are going to create articles regardless. I think it is better (and easier) to turn those often awful scribblings into worthwhile articles than to nominate them for deletion and go through a whole AFD debate. Robert Happelberg 23:27, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

While we're on the topic, I'd also like to see the seasons of existing series removed. For example, The Apprentice 6 is merely the sixth Apprentice competition. It's not certainly not a new series. Opine. SnappingTurtle 15:05, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Splitting article

I got bold and created the [Category:Upcoming television series] category and the {{Future television series}} template.

To add a show to the category, just put {{Future television series}} to the top of the article. Also remove the [[Category:Upcoming television shows]] and {{Future television}} codes. Eventually the Upcoming television shows article can be removed completely.

For the time being I'll leave it to someone else to create the upcoming episodes and seasons pages.

SnappingTurtle 20:15, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Whew! OK, I moved all of the series over to their own category. The next logical step would be a category named Upcoming episodes/seasons. That would fold in most everything that's left. Opine. SnappingTurtle 22:06, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Sigh. Don't use series in the name. It's too specific. "show" is better. You should have split off the episodes. See WP:TV-NC. Also, I'm not opposed to your changes, I just don't wanna take any more heat on this particular subject then that I have received in the past 2 months. - TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 11:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
I really didn't mean to step on yours or anybody else's shows. It just seemed that the current category was so broad that it became useless. Anyway, I'm sorry you've taken heat. This is a fun category and not something people should be heating each other about. SnappingTurtle 14:27, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
The problem now is that you have incorrectly split it. Series is a TV-format for shows. Whereas the better seperation here would have been shows vs. episodes. Like I said, i got in some quite heated debate over the past months trying to do similiar things like you are now doing, so i'm staying away from it. - TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 17:03, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
