Image talk:UO LB assasination.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is Nox, then a member of Ravens of Fate.

The person who did this was Rainz, a member of my guild during the UO beta.

What happened was this - LB and some developers were going from town to town giving speeches. When he came to Minoc, I was stuck inside a crowd of people while Lord British was giving his speech and for the purpose of mayhem I started to pickpocket and attack the people around me barefisted.

Someone started hitting me back, and then mayhem broke out. People were calling guards, but they couldn't get to us, so more and more guards spawned until the server was either shut down or crashed.

When the server came back, apparently noone realized that Lord British's (Richard Garriot's) invulnerability bit was cleared. That apparently was the job of a certain developer named 'Grimli', who factors in the epilogue.

Rainz was stuck in a crowd the same as I was, and what he did was steal a scroll of wall of fire from someone's backpack. He cast it on LB, and LB assumed he was still invulnerable and died from it.

Hilarity ensued.

Now, bear in mind that many people in our guild knew people who were on the UO dev team from the prealpha onwards - we chatted with them in irc and had spoken to them on the phone on occasion. Many of us were old fans from the Ultima Dragons days. (UDIC)

After this episode however the hammer came down on us. Rainz was banned, Kythorn (another member) had his account completely deleted such that there was no record of it (hence the term 'kythorned'), and all of us became persona non grata.

And that, as they say, is that.

- Nox

This isn't needed, Great story though. The versions I've all heard involve LB forgetting to turn Inv. back on after coming of an alt he was testing on. --Iatchi 17:17, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
