Unterseeboot 63 (1940)

Unterseeboot 63 or U-63 was a Nazi German U-Boat that operated during World War II. It was first launched on December 6th, 1939, with a crew of 25 under the command of Gunther Lorentz. [1]

On February 17th, 1940, U-63 departed on its maiden active patrol. On February 24th, 1940, it attacked and sank the Swedish 3,840 ton Santos. It was sunk the following day, on February 25th, 1940, by allied aircraft and sea vessels, by depth charge. Of the 25 man crew, 24 survived and were captured, while one was killed. Those who survived spent the remainder of the war as POW's.
