From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Unterseeboot 301 or U-301 was a German World War II Type VIIC/41 submarine whose keel was laid down on 12 February 1941 and which was commissioned on 9 May 1942. U-301 served with 5. Unterseebootflottille (U-Boat Flotilla) for training from 9 May 1942 to 30 September 1942, as the front boat of 1. Unterseebootflottille from 1 October 1942 through 31 December 1942, then finally as the front boat of 29. Unterseebootflottille from 1 January 1943 through 21 January 1943. U-301 completed several patrols neither sinking nor damaging any ships.
U-301 was sunk on 21 January 1943 in the Mediterranean just west of Bonifacio by torpedoes from the British Submarine HMS Sahib. Forty-five of U-301’s crew were killed and one survived the attack.
Kptlt Willy-Roderich Körner commanded U-301 from the time it was commissioned until it was sunk.
