Unterseeboot 1276

Unterseeboot 1276 was a Type VIIC submarine of the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid down July 13, 1943 by Bremer Vulkan of Bremen-Vegesack. She was commissioned April 6, 1944 with Oberleutnant Karl Heinz Wendt in command.

U-1276 was sunk by HMS Amethyst on 20 February 1945, by depth charges, off Waterford, Ireland at position 51°48′N, 07°07′W. All hands (49) lost.

The wreck site of the U-1276 was discovered in 2006 some 20 miles south of Youghal by a group of divers from Ardmore Diving. The submarine is lying in 75 metres of water and largely intact, albeit visibly damaged by the depth charges which sank her.
