Unrelated Incidents

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unrelated Incidents is a series of poems by Tom Leonard. One of the more well-known of this series is "The Six o'clock news" where the poem takes the form of a Glaswegian reading the news autocue like a BBC newsreader.

As a newsreader would normally speak in Received pronunciation, the strong Scottish accent and dialect words makes the poem appear difficult to understand to a reader who is not from that area of United Kingdom.

The poem tackles prejudice based upon the accents with which people speak.
