Hi, and welcome to my Wikipedia user page. Below you'll find arbitrarily chosen bits of information about me, some of which is trivial and some of which is not. Some of it is also germane to my contributions to Wikipedia, and some isn't. I'm what you'd call an inclusionist[1], and I abhor all sorts of pedantic and fundamentally quixotic grandstanding, like warring over userboxes. I firmly believe in wearing one's biases on one's sleeve (as well as avoiding succumbing to them on Wikipedia).
Much like anyone who has actually experienced it firsthand, I'm a staunch anti-Communist. My personal politics are small-L libertarian (PC 4.25/-3.38), but I certainly respect differing points of view, as long as a certain modicum of intellectual honesty is maintained. This means, among other things, that I support environmental activism but oppose neo-Malthusian scaremongering.
I'm also a technophile in every sense of the word, meaning that I both like all sorts of neat gadgets as well as hold strong techno-utopian and cornucopian views.
I use a Mac, but I have been a PC user for most of my life. My first computer was an Amstrad CPC 464 that my dad got us in 1988. Back in those days I had a moderately decent grasp of BASIC, but my interest in programming waned over the years and now I simply have a moderate grasp of HTML. Instead, I focused on graphic design and desktop publishing software and have been employed in the print and design trades since I was sixteen.
I consider myself an autodidact, as I've never taken a class in the field of my expertise (although I have been a guest lecturer on the subject at a university). I also love languages and taught myself Welsh a few years back, although I've managed to forget most of it due to disuse.
I hate "reality" TV, but I love what I call non-ficton TV. A few examples of such things would be Alton Brown's Good Eats and the awesome Mythbusters. I like 24 but think Prison Break is too contrived to suspend disbelief. I also like all space opera with the exception of silly kiddie shows like Stargate SG-1, but think the genre peaked with the short-lived Firefly.
Note: Contrary to the weaselly censored userbox down below, I'm not in the slight bit interested in agnosticism. I AM an atheist, of the mechanist persuasion, and also a skeptic. Which some claim is "divisive". Ah well.
Update: According to the ever-transmogrifying userbox, I'm now apparently interested in apatheism, whatever the hell that is. I'm most certainly not apathetic about the non-existence of anthropomorphic deities. Let's say that this user is interested in The God Delusion.
