University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine

University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine (SESOM) is located on the island of Sint Eustatius. It is a four-year medical school, which grants the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD). Instruction is divided into eleven trimesters: the first five semesters are didactic and held on the island on Sint Eustatius in Netherlands-Antilles, and the remaining six semesters are clinical rotations which take place in hospitals throughout the United States.[1].

In May 1999 the Government of Netherland-Antilles issued a charter granting the legal right of the University to grant the degree of Doctor of Medicine[1].

The Education Committee for Foreign Medical Graduates in May 1999 acknowledged of eligibility of students from the University to sit for the USMLE[2].

Sint Eustatius School of Medicine is listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory [3] as being recognized as a medical school by the appropriate local government agency.
