The University of Sharjah is a semi-governmental higher educational institution. It's founder, Supreme President and Chairman is the Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qasimi himself. Founded 1997, the University of Sharjah aims to meet the Emirate of Sharjah’s educational and cultural needs within its Islamic values and tradition. It's vision is to become a leading academic institution in the Middle East and be well recognized around the world. The university is divided into two campuses--a men's campus and a women's campus.

The main campus for the University of Sharjah is located on the southern edge of Sharjah near the Sharjah International Airport and is fifteen kilometres away from the center of the city. The community college provides its services through five branches located in different geographic areas in the Emirate of Sharjah such as Khor Fakkan .
