The University of Sagar (UTD Sagar), Hindi: सागर विश्वविद्यालय also known as Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, is a public university in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. It was founded by Sir Hari Singh Gour on 18 July 1946, during the British Raj and is the oldest university in the state.

The University of Sagar is named after Sir Hari Singh Gour, who was the founder and one of the greatest visionaries of education India has ever produced. He was also the vice chancellor of various universities like the University of Delhi and Nagpur University. But it was at the University of Sagar where he gave his greatest contribution. Although the university is named after this great academician, across the country and overseas it is more popularly known by the name of its city, and hence it is called Dr. Hari Singh Gour University: University of Sagar, and it became the first central university of Madhya Pradesh.

The University of Sagar is surrounded by beautiful mountains and hills. It is regarded as one of the most reputed and prestigious centres of learning in the country. The university has more than 36 university teaching departments. The excellent faculty of the university has helped the institution become a leading research-oriented centre. The main campus of the university is located in Sagar City; besides the university also has several affiliated colleges, as well as a distance education wing. A medical college is also being built in collaboration with the university to train students in the field of medical science. Sagar University has a rating of four out of five stars given by the University Grants Commission (UGC)

The university offers various courses at different levels such as bachelor, master, doctorate, diploma, certificate etc. Besides it also offers several distance education programmes, thus offering its students a flexible learning approach.
