The University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra was established in 1938 at the University of North Texas (then known as North Texas State Teachers College). The orchestra is currently led by Maestro Anshel Brusilow, who conducted the group from 1973 to 1982 and from 1989 to 2008. The group includes students from 25 states and 12 countries. It gained international recognition in 1992 by touring Spain and the Mediterranean. The following season the orchestra was invited to play Verdi’s Requiem in Monterrey, Mexico.
