University of North Dakota Writers Conference

The University of North Dakota Writers Conference is an annual literary event held at the University of North Dakota (UND) located in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The week-long Writers Conference is known for being one of the most distinguished cultural events on campus. It brings prominent writers from the United States and abroad to Grand Forks. Past participants have included: Eudora Welty, Tom Wolfe, Larry Woiwode, Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Ring Lardner Jr., Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Leslie Marmon Silko, Gwendolyn Brooks, John Ashbery, Derek Walcott, and numerous other distinguished writers. More recent conferences have included Ursula Hegi, Oliver Sacks, Marilynne Robinson, and Louise Erdrich. Noted author Salman Rushdie (The Satanic Verses) will be a participant in the 2008 conference. A film festival is held in conjunction with each Writers Conference.
