University of Metaphysical Sciences

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University of Metaphysical Sciences (UMS), located in Arcata, California, and St. Paul, Minnesota, is a distance education institution that offers courses in a variety of metaphysical topics such as meditation, mythology, reincarnation and alternative healing modalities.

UMS offers Bachelor, Masters and Doctor of Divinity degrees in Metaphysics and Metaphysical subjects from its California location and Ph.D. degrees from its Minnesota location.[1] It operates as an educational affiliate of the Universal Church of Metaphysics, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.[1]

UMS and the Universal Church of Metaphysics were established by Christine Breese, an author, meditation facilitator, and counselor who has been teaching metaphysics classes since 1990. She claims to hold a Doctor of Divinity Degree in Metaphysical Sciences and a Ph.D. in Metaphysical Counseling.[2]

UMS states that it is accredited by the American Association Of Medical Alternatives and American Association Of Drugless Practitioners,[3] which are not recognized as accreditors of higher education in the United States. On its website, UMS notes that "a degree from University Of Metaphysical Sciences is a religious degree, not a secular degree, and cannot replace a secular education."[3]
