University of Massachusetts School of Law
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was a proposal in early 2005 to establish a law school in the UMass system. As of 2006, the University of Massachusetts School of Law approval was denied. Its future existence is currently in doubt.
The Trustees of the University of Massachusetts voted on December 21, 2004 to purchase the Southern New England School of Law, a private school located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and operate it as the only public law school in the state. In early 2005, the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education voted against the merger, outraging many as the board was viewed to have "caved in" to the desires of the commonwealth's private law schools, such as Suffolk University, that did not want a public law school in Massachusetts.
This is not to be confused with Massachusetts School of Law.
