University of Kuala Lumpur (Malay: Universiti Kuala Lumpur) or UniKL is a technical university based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. UniKL's courses and programmes are delivered through its nine (9) institutes located throughout the country.

Universiti Kuala Lumpur, established in August 2002, aims to contribute towards the development and advancement of Malaysia’s human capital in engineering technology fields through the concept of ‘one institute, one specialisation’. The varsity's contributions encompass not only tertiary education but also research and development for commercialisation purposes. The branch campuses and institutes which are located nationwide offer programmes in the following areas of specialisation:

[edit] Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI)

Incorporated in February 1995, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) is a collaborative project between Malaysia and France. The graduates of UniKL MFI are geared towards becoming professionals highly equipped with the required skills and competence in both the technical and non-technical fields. This is made possible through the programmes offered by UniKL MFI which has a balanced content of traditional good practice and the best of new technologies with a thorough ground in theory and practical application.....

[edit] Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI)

Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) was set up as a result of a smart partnership between the Malaysian and British government in the year 1998. Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), representing the Malaysian government was given the mandate to provide the infrastructure and manpower while the British government contributed by providing support and expertise through its key players in certain industries such as the BAE Systems, British Airways, Standard Chartered Bank (M) Bhd and Rolls Royce as well as its highly reputable institutions which include Wigan & Leigh College and the University of Hertfordshire.

[edit] Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI)

Established in response to the rapidly increasing demand of the industry and incorporating the most advanced technology in Automotive Engineering, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) commenced its operation at a temporary campus in August 2002 and moved its main campus which is built on an approximately 39.27 acre piece of land in Kulim Hi Tech Park, Kedah in December 2003. A collaborative effort between the Malaysian and Spanish government, UniKL MSI offers automotive engineering programmes with a combination of theoretical training and practical application.

[edit] Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (MIIT)

Formerly known as Institut Infotech MARA, Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (MIIT) has been at the forefront of providing IT education since 1982. It started off as Electronic Data Processing School of MARA and its main objective then was to impart knowledge in computer programming. However, with the change of landscape in the ICT industry globally and locally, MIIT has re-strategised and diversified the programmes that it offers in order to realise the 9th Malaysia Plan which includes generating skilled ICT workforce and technopreneurs. MIIT also has the support of key industry players such as CISCO and IBM Malaysia.

Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) is a pioneer institution of higher learning in the country that provides hands-on chemical based technology education. Located within the Bio Valley of Malaysia, its courses place high emphasis on the interaction between scientific and technological training and industrial experience with the contents of its courses regularly reviewed in accordance with the changing needs of the industry.

[edit] Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET)

Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) was established in collaboration between Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and International Training Australia (ITA) that represented the Australian government as a training provider. It aims to offer industry specific courses which will produce highly skilled and knowledgeable manpower for the maritime industry. Its permanent campus is strategically located in Lumut, Perak, relatively known as the home base of the Royal Malaysian Navy equipped with ports and wharfs and one of the centres for maritime industry in Malaysia. Courses offered by UniKL MIMET have been carefully developed to produce skilled workers highly demanded by local and international marine engineering companies.

[edit] Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP)

Being a part of Universiti Kuala Lumpur in the year 2005, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) offers high quality programmes in the areas of medicine & surgery, nursing, pharmacy and radiography. In ensuring that its courses are relevant to the health industry, UniKL RCMP is working very closely with Ipoh Hospital, Perak, in developing its curriculum and in providing the opportunity for its graduates to experience practical training throughout their acquisition of knowledge and skills.

[edit] Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing (IPROM)

Combining a sound manufacturing engineering base with a carefully designed curriculum, Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing (IPROM) aims to produce graduates who are able to play a significant role in the design and manufacturing field for industries specialising in consumer products. The graduates are exposed to hands-on mode of training that will enable them to acquire good understanding of the aesthetic, analytical and manufacturing skills to effectively develop innovative designs and products of high commercial value. The institute is also actively involved in consultancy and R&D activities.

[edit] Pre-University Programme

UniKL offers a pre-university programme known as Foundation in Engineering Technology for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia school leavers who are interested to later pursue a degree course at UniKL. This programme is implemented in collaboration with MARA and is conducted at Kolej MARA Kulim.

[edit] City Campus

Universiti Kuala Lumpur has shifted from Bangunan TH Perdana to its own building in Vision City known as Universiti Kuala Lumpur City Campus which houses two of its institutes; Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (MIIT) and Institute of Product Design and Manifacturing (IPROM).

This unique 31-storey building with 228,534sqf of working space is the tallest university building in Malaysia and ASEAN countries. Its 7,201sqf lobby area has one mezzanine level, made into a student counselling and discussion area.

Besides that, there are other facilities such as Bestari Lecture Hall which fits 225 people at one time, three storeys dedicated as the library area complete with an IT Resource Centre, six incubators, 31 laboratories (i.e. Multimedia Lab, JAVA/Ms.NET Lab, Rational Lab, Networking Lab, CAD-CAM Lab, CNC Simulators Lab, CAD & Design Lab, CCM & Metrology Lab, Mechanical & Materials Lab, Mechatronics Lab, Graduates’ Project Lab, Analog Lab and Language Lab), 30 lecture rooms and a studio. Level 4 until 24 are used for academic purposes mainly lectures.

Level 25 onwards are the administration levels, which house the Deans’ Offices, Preparatory Centre, Administration, Finance, Human Resource, Corporate Affairs and Entrepreneur Development and Innovation Divisions. The President’s Office is located on the 31st floor of the building.
